Fixed and Focused

“Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.” Psalm 145:2-3

I was very lucky to have a great friend in the church take my wedding photos. I was so excited when we came back from our honeymoon to see the pictures! Like any new wife, I wanted to plaster our home with pictures of that happy day. When I started looking at the photos (which turned out amazing) I became aware of a trend. Every time there was a group photo, my eyes would immediately, and unconsciously, seek out me first. I wanted to make sure I looked okay, that my eyes weren’t closed, or make sure I didn’t have a weird expression. I was focused on “me.” It made me think of how often I do this in my daily life as well.

There are many times that I get caught up in “my” schedule, “my” time, “my” plans, “my” visions. While I think that it is healthy and good to have plans and schedules and visions, they should not be the focus of our life. We were made for one reason: to have fellowship with our Creator and to praise His name.

So often I miss that big truth. I get focused on me and my world. But, thankfully, it is NOT all about me. It is all about Him! Have you taken any time today to thank Him for all that he does for you? Have you spent time praising him and lifting Him up to his due sovereignty? Or, like me, have you been ensnared into the lie that it is all about us, and that making ourselves happy should be our number one goal? Don’t get caught up in the lie. Commit time right now, wherever you are at, to praising the One who made it all.
