God's GPS

I want to give a shout out to the inventor of the GPS system! It has lightened our travel burden on many vacations. Before GPS it was my job to give directions to the driver. I guess that makes me the GPS of years gone by. Which is great, if you’re not “directionally challenged”. I admit this freely, I am absolutely useless when it comes to reading a map! And yes, my husband would like to use paper maps over a GPS every time.

On our recent vacation to the west coast of Michigan, I relaxed knowing my faithful GPS system in the car would help us to arrive at our final stop. There would be no stress, no hassle, and no missed turns. Right? I simply needed to give the device the address of our destination. No biggie! How hard is that? So what's the problem, you may ask?

Here let me tell you about the problem. When the driver begins to question the GPS, that’s the problem. "I don't think that's right." , the driver would say. I immediately feel the vacation take a detour from no stress, no hassle to heat prickling frustration. The driver again questions me. “Are you sure you entered the correct address?” Now you do remember I'm kinda clueless about directions and GPS devices. But now, I too, am questioning the all-knowing GPS. We finally arrived at our lakeside destination (my happy place) but there were a few minutes along the way that we questioned the supreme knowledge of the GPS.

This experience my husband and I had a few weeks ago, reminds me of another direction expert that I have questioned along my journey, the Holy Spirit. He is available to the believer to guide and direct our path, if we would only release the map to Him and then not question each turn. As much as I hate to admit it, I know that I don't always obey when the Holy Spirit directs. Sometimes I think I know better than my "built-in GPS system", the Holy Spirit. Truth be told, we can't always trust a man made GPS system, but we can trust God’s GPS, the Holy Spirit. He is without question...TRUSTWORTHY.

Next time you want to question the Holy Spirit’s direction, remember Proverbs 3:5-6. He's the direction guide… God’s GPS.

"Trust the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths smooth."

Follow directions exactly as written.
