He Saw Me
On vacation, my husband and I enjoy shopping at resale stores. We usually are looking for little "treasures" for five dollars or less. We actually look more than buy.
In one antique shop, I found the cutest little ceramic dog that looked exactly like our little dachshund, Zoey. I held the trinket in my hand pondering the purchase. I decided to go for it. I took a few steps towards the cash register and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the price of $18. No way was I going to pay that for a four inch ceramic dog! As much as I wanted it, I put it back on the shelf. To be perfectly honest, I picked the little dog up a couple more times holding and looking at the pup. Then I returned it to it's place for the last time and walked away.
When we got in the car to leave, my husband asked if I bought anything. I told him about the little dog. Then ranted about how overpriced the shop was and I was not about to pay $18.00 for that ridiculous relic! He agreed wholeheartedly.
The next morning we were eating breakfast at our hotel and my husband pulled out a little gift bag and said, "I got you a surprise."
Like a little kid, I squealed with delight and opened the bag. You can probably guess what was inside—the overpriced, cutest EVER, little ceramic dog. My eyes still tear up thinking about that day.
From across the store, my husband had watched me pick that dog up and put it back several times. I wasn’t willing to pay the price, but he was…because he loves me.
Isn't that just like our Heavenly Father? His eyes are always watching over us, wanting to express His love for each of us. God’s ultimate expression of love was displayed on the cross. He loves us so much that He was willing to pay a great price—His only Son. His gift to us cost Him everything—He did it because of love.
